    Beloved Family in the Lord,

This coming Lord’s Day, immediately following the service of worship, there will be a brief Called Meeting of the Congregation for the purpose of electing Deacons.

Each of the ten men to be presented to you for election have been nominated by the congregation, trained for this office, and are recommended to you by the Session for your approval.   Please be in prayer for this special moment in the life of our fellowship.  The candidates are:

    DJ Alhorn

    Dean Alhorn

    Rich Bagdazian

    Bert Luoma

    Clint Johnson

    Joshua Fortenberry

    Todd Holloway

    Marc Peterson

    Dave Purinton

    Drew Thompson

Our sermon for this Sunday will come from 1 Timothy 1:18-20.  As you meditate upon this passage, you will see that Paul introduces, and links together, the images of warfare and shipwreck.  I’ve entitled our message ‘War on the High Seas.’ Let’s pray fervently that our Lord will speak to us, and will richly bless the preaching of His Word.

I love you all so dearly,

    Mike

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,

This coming Lord’s Day we will be privileged to hear Dr. Matthew Elliott preach God’s Word from 1 Timothy 1:15-17.  You will likely remember the sweet sound of the beautiful benediction contained in verse 17, as well as Paul’s personal confession that he is the foremost of all sinners in verse 15.  I know we will also be blessed and enriched by Matthew’s message, and please lift him to our Lord in fervent prayer as he delivers God’s Word to us.

It will also be our great honor to have Noah and Karleigh Stephens with us this Sunday morning.  As you know, they serve the Lord as our PCA missionaries to Thailand.  Noah will be giving us a report on their work among the people of Thailand during our Worship time, and please be sure to meet them both before and after our service.

I look forward to teaching our Adult Sunday School class and leading our Worship and Communion this Lord’s Day!

May our Father bless you all with a restful weekend, and I love you dearly!

    Mike

    Beloved Ones in Christ Jesus,

This coming Lord’s Day we will be taking our sermon text from the words of 1 Timothy 1:3-11.  In this lengthy section of the epistle, Timothy will be solemnly charged with the task of standing against the false teachers who have gone astray from the Gospel, and introduced strange and divisive doctrines into the Ephesian church.

As we will see, the essence of the false teaching being propagated in the church had to do with a fundamental misunderstanding and misapplication of the Mosaic Law. In response, Timothy will be challenged by Paul to counter this heterodox teaching with what the Apostle calls “the gospel of the glory of the blessed God” (v. 11). With these words, the gospel of Christ is set in direct contrast with the “myths and endless genealogies” (v. 4) which have captured the attention of Paul’s opponents.

As we examine this passage, we will seek to understand what it is that makes the gospel we have believed a most glorious message that is worth fighting for at all costs.

    I love you all,

    Mike

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

Before I introduce our sermon passage for this coming Sunday, let me remind you that this Saturday night is the time we ‘Spring Forward.’  Daylight Saving Time begins once again, so be sure to make that adjustment in your clocks before heading off to sleep.

If you do a quick study of the Epistle’s of Paul, you will find that he begins, and sometimes even ends, his letters with a greeting composed of “grace,” “peace,” and even “mercy” as he does in 1 Timothy 1:2.  Far from being just his usual practice, the Apostle Paul intends that these words set the stage for what he communicates in the body of his letters.

1 Timothy is no different.  There is a definite reason that as he pens his letter to Timothy, Paul starts with “Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.”

This Lord’s Day we will seek to understand why Paul initiates his correspondence with Timothy in this way. And we will also explore the depths of each of the three beautiful words we find here so prominently set forth in verse 2.

I love you all so dearly!

    Mike
