Sermon Preview:

Beloved Church Family,

It will be our great joy once again this Lord’s Day to gather in worship before our wonderful and sovereign King! As we begin preparing our hearts for worship, let me encourage you to reflect upon the magnificent passage from Hebrews 4 that we have been investigating through our recent sermons.

You will remember that in Hebrews 4:14-16, the author of this inspired letter is telling us all about the “ great high priest” that we now have, ever serving before the Father’s holy throne on our behalf. And we have been exploring what it is, precisely, that makes Him “ great.” In this passage we have identified four characteristics of our Lord’s priesthood that combine to make Him the greatest of all!

Last Sunday we examined the first of the four, that He has “ passed through the heavens.” This Sunday, we will consider the remaining three attributes of Christ’s eternal and magnificent priesthood: He is none other than the “ Son of God;” He is “ without sin;” and because He has faithfully endured every temptation we face, He is able to “ sympathize with our weaknesses.”

I can’t wait to mine the eternal riches of this encouraging Word from God with you!

Thank You!

As I write this note early on this Friday morning, my heart is bursting with praise to our Father for each of you!

Thank you for remaining loyal to Christ our Lord during these unsettled and upsetting days!

Thank you for remaining committed to your membership vows, which establish our connection to each other in this local body of Christ!

Thank you for your patience in enduring the less-than-perfect conditions we still face, and for graciously supporting your Session as we have had to make many ‘battle-field decisions’ in the face of a most complicated and ever changing challenge!

Thank you for your unselfishness, your warm spirit of sacrifice and service, your joy and hope, and the love you faithfully express to each other!

Thank you for your faithful prayers for one another, and for those who lead and serve you!

And thank you for demonstrating your love for Christ and His Kingdom through your faithful giving in support of His work among us!

There is no doubt that there is at least one thing our Lord is doing during these trying days. He is building us, His people, into a stronger and purer Church!

Throughout these long months of uncertainty and affliction, our Heavenly Father is making our fellowship richer and more loving, our dependence upon His Spirit and His Word much deeper, our hope for the future much brighter, and He is empowering our witness to our community in ways we could never know!

I love you so much! I wish I possessed the proper vocabulary to express my affection for each of you! Nevertheless, with the Apostle Paul I can say that . . .

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy” (Philippians 1:3-4).

Yours in our Dear Savior,

Mike
