Call to Worship: From Psalm 103

Pastor: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
People: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
Pastor: who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
People: who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Pastor: The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.
People: Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Prayer of Adoration:

Song:  By Thy Mercy

Jesus, Lord of life and glory, bend from Heav’n Thy gracious ear
While our waiting souls adore thee, friend of helpless sinners, hear
From the depth of nature’s blindness, from the hardening power of sin
From all malice and unkindness, from the pride that lurks within

Chorus: By Thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord
By Thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord, good Lord

When temptation sorely presses, in the day of Satan’s power
In our times of deep distresses, in each dark and trying hour
When the world around is smiling, in the time of wealth and ease
Earthly joys our hearts beguiling, in the day of health and peace

In the weary hours of sickness, in the times of grief and pain
When we feel our mortal weakness, when all human help is vain
In the solemn hour of dying, in the awful judgment day,
May our souls, on Thee relying, find thee still our rock and stay.

The Old Testament Lesson: Genesis 50:15-21

Prayer of Confession:

Assurance of Pardon:  Psalm 103:11-12

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

The New Testament Lesson: Romans 14:1-8

Prayer for the Church:  Dr. Bud Lancaster, Ruling Elder.

The Sermon: “Our Great High Priest: Part One.”  Hebrews 4:14-16. Dr. Michael Calvert, Teaching Elder.

Confession of FaithWestminster Confession of Faith, 8.1, Christ Our Mediator

In his eternal purpose it pleased God to choose and ordain the Lord Jesus, his Only Begotten Son, to be the Mediator between God and man. Jesus is the Prophet, Priest, and King, the Head and Savior of his church, the Heir of all things, and Judge of the world. From all eternity God gave him a people to be his seed and to be in time redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified by him.

Song:  Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus – Hymn 679 v.1-4

1. ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take him at his word;
Just to rest upon his promise;
Just to know, thus saith the Lord.

Chorus: Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more.

2. O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust his cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me
‘Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

3. Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

4. I’m so glad I learned to trust thee,
Precious Jesus, Saviour, Friend;
And I know that thou art with me,
Will be with me to the end.

The Benediction: From Revelation 22:21

May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you all!  Amen!
