Month: January 2025

  • Announcements – January 31, 2025

Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Have you ever given some serious reflection as to why the ancient Israelites built a tabernacle in the wilderness, and then a temple for the Lord in Jerusalem?  Why were such special places needed, and how were these sacred spaces different from the temples and shrines that the pagan religious devotees constructed?

Well, as we turn once again to the prophet Ezekiel we will find the answers to these questions.  In Ezekiel 43:1-5, the prophet’s guided tour of a new, heavenly temple continues.  In these verses, the prophet has yet another overwhelming encounter with the Lord of Glory.  What he witnesses, as guided by the Holy Spirit, is not only beyond all comprehension, it is filled with truth that will point us in the direction of our Great High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ!

On Sunday, we will continue to accompany Ezekiel on his tour of the new temple, the new city, and the new land that awaits all who belong to Jesus!

    I love you all,

    Mike

    Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In the final section of the massive prophecy of Ezekiel (chapters 40-48), we discover the last great vision that the Lord gave to the exiled preacher living among the captive Israelites in Babylon. The book closes with nine chapters that are full of intricate details that provided the Israelites with a captivating picture of a magnificent new land, a new city, and a new temple!  But before Ezekiel shared this vision with the exiles, he first had to take a guided tour of this new land himself, along with its capital city and its stunningly beautiful new temple.

In Ezekiel 40:1-4, we see how this came about, and we are introduced to a visual sermon that Ezekiel would be ordered to proclaim to his people.  This ‘picture-sermon’ would provide the captives with a foretaste of the future that would sustain them even during the hardest times that lay ahead for them.

On Sunday, we will get acquainted with this final vision granted to the prophet, and we will take a tour with him as Ezekiel is guided by an angel along the way. As we consider these chapters over the next few Sundays, let me encourage you to begin reading Ezekiel 40-48.  This will surely be an unforgettable tour!

I love you all with all my heart!

    Mike

Beloved Ones in our Lord Jesus Christ,

As we have been traveling through the grand prophecy of Ezekiel on Sunday mornings, we have encountered a wonderful and surprising truth.  We have realized that this old book, written to a people long ago in a place far away, is also about us!  With our own eyes (and ears!), we have witnessed the reality that Paul would later explain to Timothy:

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16).

In Ezekiel 37, we have come upon a passage that describes nothing short of a divine miracle! That mighty wonder is the spiritual resurrection of a people who had self-destructed by means of their rejection of God’s Word, and the stubborn and persistent disobedience that followed. The Old Covenant people, under the influence of the intoxicating lure of the worldly cultures around them, were in need of nothing less than a resurrection from the dead!

Ezekiel 37:10-14 shows us how that great miracle happened as Ezekiel envisioned it under the guidance and influence of the Holy Spirit.  While I don’t want to give too much away here, let me just say that there was a combination of ‘elements’ that resulted in the release of a power far exceeding anything on earth, both back then and right now!

As we come before our Lord this Sunday, we will investigate this grand miracle and probe its most wonderful application to us today.

I love you all so much!!

    Mike

    Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This coming Lord’s Day, we will once again focus our attention upon the remarkable vision given to the prophet Ezekiel as recorded in Ezekiel 37:1-10.  As the prophet himself tells us, by means of the Spirit of the Lord He found himself transported in a vision to a place of death, a vast valley full of dry, sun-bleached, and scattered bones.  While he contemplated the horrendous scene before him, Ezekiel was at once confronted with a question from the Lord God; “Son of man, can these bones live?” (v. 3).

As we suggested in our message from last week, it is in this strange vision granted to Ezekiel that we discover some of our most fundamental and cherished doctrines related to our salvation in Christ Jesus our Lord. As we continue to travel through this portion of God’s Word, we will find the Old Testament foundation for what the New Testament authors will call regeneration, sanctification, and preservation.

This Sunday we will give our attention to the test that Ezekiel faced as he was questioned by the Lord.  Does he, the mighty prophet of God, really believe that the Lord he speaks for can do the impossible?

I know that our Father has a rich feast prepared for us from His Word as we gather before Him in worship!

    I love you all, always,

    Mike

  • Announcements – January 3, 2025

Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On this very first Friday of the New Year, I want to encourage you to prepare your hearts for Lord’s Day Worship by spending some time reflecting upon our sermon passage for this coming Sunday.  We will again take up the Book of Ezekiel and move a little further through this Old Testament prophecy from long ago.

Our text for the next few Sundays will be Ezekiel 37:1-14. This is that well-known section of the book often described as the ‘Vision of the Valley of Dry Bones.’  If you have not read this section of Ezekiel before, you’ll be in for not only a shock, but a great blessing as well!

This Sunday, we will take our initial look at the words of verses 1-10.  As we do, we will encounter an Old Testament introduction to the power of God to raise sinners from the dead, and to revive and preserve them in the state of new life.  Using the language of the New Testament, we will see how our Lord both builds His Church (regeneration), and how He revives, purifies, and preserves His people (sanctification).

Sunday School for All Ages Resumes This Week at 9:15 AM!

There are classes for all ages, so please join us as we study God’s Word together. Our Adult class will be on the subject of Psalm 119, ‘The Great Psalm.’

I love you all with all my heart,

    Mike
