Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: Part Five - The Image of God Perfected in GloryRev. Michael Calvert, Ph.D., October 6, 2019
Part of the Fearfully and Wonderfully Made series.
On Sunday we will complete our sermon series entitled “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: Man In the Image of God.” And our subject will be “The Image of God Perfected.” Our focus will be upon a very familiar section of God’s Word, Romans 8:28-30. There, Paul says:
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
This passage contains what is commonly referred to as ‘The Golden Chain of Salvation,’ for it reveals the sequence of events, brought about by God alone, that leads to our salvation in its fullest expression. You can see that it includes foreknowledge, predestination, calling, justification, and glorification. But what is most interesting is that Paul declares that all of this is linked to God’s final purpose for each of us, that of our conformity “to the image of His Son.”
We will probe the meaning of this great passage on Sunday, and see how it answers the basic question, ‘What is a human being?’
29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. (KJV)
