Standing Guard Over the Gospel

Series:
Passage: 1 Timothy 6:20-21
Service Type:
Each and every time we are assembled together for worship it is a most unique and wonderful occasion for praise and thanksgiving as we gaze upon our Sovereign God as He has revealed Himself to us in the Word and in our most blessed Savior. However, there are some times of worship where our collective praise is prompted by the commemoration of a special instance of the faithfulness and grace of the Lord in our present-day lives.  This Sunday will be one of those occasions.
On Sunday August 21, 2005, a small fellowship of believers, known then as the Christ Presbyterian Mission of Evangel Presbytery, gathered for worship in the auditorium of Hampton Cove Middle School. Teaching Elders Dr. Frank Barker and Rev. Ralph Keel presided over a service of particularization for the little congregation.  On that Sunday, the mission officially became Christ Presbyterian Church.  And at the conclusion of that historic service we shared our very first Communion as a free-standing congregation of the PCA.
This Lord’s Day we will be remembering our Savior’s faithfulness to us not only in the founding of the Church in 2005, but also in His sustaining grace that has preserved and protected us for twenty years.
On Sunday morning, our sermon will come from a very appropriate text, 1 Timothy 6:20. It is there that the Apostle Paul enjoins young Timothy to “guard the deposit” that has been “entrusted” to him. In our Lord’s sweet providence, there could not be a timelier passage for us to give attention to on this special day!
Then, on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM we will gather again in the worship center for the presentation of a wonderful and exciting video-history of our last twenty years together.  Following the video, there will be a twentieth anniversary fellowship on the grounds of the Church house, with lots of ice cream to make it especially delightful!  Please feel free to dress comfortably for the warm outdoors.
