  • Monday Encouragement

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”–1 Timothy 2:1-4.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On this new Monday, I want to continue our look at how we are instructed to pray for those in authority over us. And I am directing your attention to these verses in light of our forty-days of prayer for our nation that we are engaged in as we approach our upcoming Presidential election.

Briefly, we suggested last week that Paul’s emphasis here seems to be upon the outcome of our prayers for our national and local leaders. This is seen in the phrase, “ that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”

But today, I want to take this a bit further and explain Paul’s rationale for this emphasis. Then I will suggest some ways we might practically apply this passage to our current situation, all the while seeking to provide us with some encouragement and hope. So, here we go!

First, it would appear that the Apostle’s purpose in focusing upon the outcome of our prayers–that we believers would live our lives before the world in a way that pleases our Lord–is that it has something to do with the advance of the Gospel. This is expressed well in the Phillips Translation of this passage:

“. . . so that our common life may be lived in peace and quiet, with a proper sense of God and of our responsibility to him for what we do with our lives. In the sight of God our Savior this is undoubtedly the right thing to pray for; for his purpose is that all men should be saved and come to realize the truth.”

Our ability and willingness to live godly lives, characterized by peace and quietness, enhances and fosters our opportunities to carry out our mission as the Church. And if this is true, then it is also true that to the degree that we are not godly, peaceful, and are not displaying a quiet (yet confident) faith in Christ, our witness is hindered.

So let’s try and put this together in terms of a summary statement:

We should fervently pray for those in power over us for the purpose that, as Christians, we might be unhindered both in our pursuit of holiness and in the completion of our mission, which is to bring the Gospel to the world.

But this still leaves us asking what we should pray for specifically as we remember our leaders before God’s throne in fervent supplication. Well, here is where we have to do some hard thinking. We must consider the broader implications of Paul’s inspired instructions. How does this passage guide our specific prayer requests today in 2020?

Maybe I can provide some assistance with this question by telling you some of the things that I am praying for as we approach election day.

A Prayer for the Presidential Election

Here’s how I might frame my prayer:

Dear Father, I ask that that the presidential candidate whose platform and personal convictions are most in harmony with Your Holy Word might be peacefully elected, and this for the glory of Your Son’s dear Name. And I pray that when this one takes office, that he might be moved upon by Your Spirit to pursue the righteous discharge of his duties in order that we might be at peace and may live in godliness, enjoying the freedoms we need that we may declare the Gospel to the world.”

In other words, I am asking the Lord to grant us mercy, and to move the hearts of the electorate to put a man in office who, if not personally a Christian, will yet be committed (either consciously or unconsciously) to those basic and essential truths of Scripture that establish and defend the dignity of those made in His image and likeness.

Included in these essential truths would be: the sanctity of all human life and those fundamental human rights, which are divinely granted, that flow from this preeminent fact; the freedom to practice one’s faith without fear of governmental interference, or persecution from the enemies of the Church or the state; the rule of law and the maintenance of civil order; the expectation of personal accountability for all people; a commitment to defend the citizenry; and liberty to pursue one’s calling.

While more can and should be added to this list, the point is that these principles are the very ones that make for peace among men, and also afford us the freedom to execute our duties and obligations as believers in Christ and as responsible citizens of this nation. We want and need a President who will courageously uphold these indispensable standards so that we can live with the greatest freedom possible for the glory of God!

And as a Christian who is also an American citizen, I am intensely praying that the one elected to this high office will uphold and defend our Constitution wherein, by God’s gracious providence, we find these very principles embedded, and without which this nation cannot exist!

Certainty, there are many other things that we will pray for as we think of our local, state, and national leaders. But looking at the larger picture, what’s most essential is that we implore our Heavenly Father to be merciful to us and to the people of our nation. We want Him to graciously grant us what we don’t deserve–leaders who will govern in righteousness, in wisdom, with a courage empowered by the Spirit, with compassion and magnanimity, accompanied by a selfless devotion to those whom they govern and serve.

    Some Encouragement

With all this said, let me now offer a simple word of encouragement for you.

If our Father has commanded us to pray, as indeed He has, then we can rest assured that He will hear and answer our supplications.

How amazing it is that our Great God has invited us to pray, and has determined to use our often-feeble petitions to accomplish His will! What a privilege prayer is! Your loving Father will never turn His ears away from you. He will never fail to acknowledge your voice, no matter how weak or frail it may sound. He has summoned you into His presence in order that through your prayers, and those of Christ’s blood-bought Church, you might touch and impact the whole world for His glory!

It’s likely that you may never personally meet the President. But, nevertheless, you can most assuredly make effectual contact with his very soul through your Christ-centered prayers on his behalf! And not even the power of hell itself can stop you!

So, let us pray! Let us remember those in “ high positions.” Let us ask our Father to grant us a good and faithful President. Let us seek the Spirit’s influence on the outcome of the election! Let us beseech our Lord to grant us more time to carry out the Great Commission, and that we might do so in peace and freedom! And then let us leave the results in His hands, while humbly seeking His strength so that no matter what happens, we might live holy lives before this lost world!

    I love you all, always,

    Mike

    Sermon Preview:

    Beloved Church Family,

It will be our great joy once again this Lord’s Day to gather in worship before our wonderful and sovereign King! As we begin preparing our hearts for worship, let me encourage you to reflect upon the magnificent passage from Hebrews 4 that we have been investigating through our recent sermons.

You will remember that in Hebrews 4:14-16, the author of this inspired letter is telling us all about the “ great high priest” that we now have, ever serving before the Father’s holy throne on our behalf. And we have been exploring what it is, precisely, that makes Him “ great.” In this passage we have identified four characteristics of our Lord’s priesthood that combine to make Him the greatest of all!

Last Sunday we examined the first of the four, that He has “ passed through the heavens.” This Sunday, we will consider the remaining three attributes of Christ’s eternal and magnificent priesthood: He is none other than the “ Son of God;” He is “ without sin;” and because He has faithfully endured every temptation we face, He is able to “ sympathize with our weaknesses.”

I can’t wait to mine the eternal riches of this encouraging Word from God with you!

    Thank You!

As I write this note early on this Friday morning, my heart is bursting with praise to our Father for each of you!

Thank you for remaining loyal to Christ our Lord during these unsettled and upsetting days!

Thank you for remaining committed to your membership vows, which establish our connection to each other in this local body of Christ!

Thank you for your patience in enduring the less-than-perfect conditions we still face, and for graciously supporting your Session as we have had to make many ‘battle-field decisions’ in the face of a most complicated and ever changing challenge!

Thank you for your unselfishness, your warm spirit of sacrifice and service, your joy and hope, and the love you faithfully express to each other!

Thank you for your faithful prayers for one another, and for those who lead and serve you!

And thank you for demonstrating your love for Christ and His Kingdom through your faithful giving in support of His work among us!

There is no doubt that there is at least one thing our Lord is doing during these trying days. He is building us, His people, into a stronger and purer Church!

Throughout these long months of uncertainty and affliction, our Heavenly Father is making our fellowship richer and more loving, our dependence upon His Spirit and His Word much deeper, our hope for the future much brighter, and He is empowering our witness to our community in ways we could never know!

I love you so much! I wish I possessed the proper vocabulary to express my affection for each of you! Nevertheless, with the Apostle Paul I can say that . . .

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy” (Philippians 1:3-4).

    Yours in our Dear Savior,

    Mike

  • Monday Encouragement

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”–1 Timothy 2:1-4.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On this new Monday, I want to offer a slightly different kind of encouragement to you from God’s Word.

As we glance at the calendar, we see that we have just over forty days until our national Presidential election. Needless to say, this certainly may be one of the most significant elections in the history of our country, and certainly in our lifetimes!

Along with everything that has transpired so far in 2020, we enter these final days and weeks before the vote with a whole range of concerns. However, we are certainly not the first generation of disciples of Christ who have faced such daunting days, particularly with reference to the political climate of their times. For this is precisely what we discover, for example, when we examine the two New Testament letters that the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy.

About the year AD 62 Paul was released from the first of his two imprisonments in the imperial capital of Rome. After he had regained his freedom, he wrote the letter to Timothy we know as First Timothy. At some point later, the Apostle was again taken into custody by Roman officials and imprisoned for a second time. Then as a prisoner for Christ once again, he wrote the letter we call Second Timothy, the last such letter that Paul would ever author. Somewhere between AD 64-67 Paul, the great Apostle and missionary to the Gentiles, was executed by the emperor (likely Nero).

What’s so intriguing about all of this is what Paul exhorts Timothy (the young pastor serving in Ephesus) to do in such a dangerous political climate, one full of potential and actual threats to the very existence of the Church. You can see in the passage from First Timothy quoted above that the Apostle delivers an urgent command to his young friend and fellow-laborer in the Gospel:

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions.”

Timothy is to call his people to prayer, and not only fervent prayer for the church, but vigorous supplication for all kinds and classes of people, and especially for those who are in “ high positions.”

Well, there’s nothing really unexpected here for us so far. I believe that virtually all believers in Christ understand our fundamental obligation to pray on behalf of the world at large, and especially those in power over us. But what should we pray for, according to Paul, as we remember those in such “ high positions”?

Well, the Apostle tells us exactly what our prayers should focus upon in verse 2:

that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”

Now, truthfully, does that come as a surprise to you?

There are certainly many things we could (and should) pray for in regard to our political authorities, especially when they come up for election or re-election! The policies and platforms of the various parties and candidates are surely legitimate matters of concern and prayer. And who ultimately gets to occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC for the next four years is also a huge concern to take to our heavenly Father in prayer! But, oddly, these do not seem to be the immediate concerns of the soon-to-be re-imprisoned Apostle.

What he is focused upon is the outcome of our prayers for those over us. And, specifically, that the members of the body of Christ would remain free to lead lives of peace, quietness, godliness, and dignityin every way.” For it is this that “ is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior” (v. 3).

I intend to pick up this passage and this theme again next Monday and develop it further. But for now I would encourage you to reflect upon this rather unexpected goal of our prayers which is set forth here by Paul. Let’s think hard about why this is “ pleasing” to our Father, why it is a matter of first importance, and how living in this way as believers gives Him both pleasure and glory.

As I go, let me ask that you would join me in forty days of fervent prayer for our nation, for the election, and for those who will be in power over us. As we gather in prayer before meals, or in our times of family worship, or in our solitary moments of intercession, let’s be sure to remember our “ kings and all who are in high positions.” And let us pray that the outcome of our prayers will be that we might be empowered to live before the world in the way our Father has desired.

    To be continued. . . .

I love you all so much,

    Mike

    Sermon Preview:

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

This coming Lord’s Day we will take the second of our three looks at Hebrews 4:14-16.

You will remember that the theme of this magnificent passage is ‘Jesus Our Great High Priest.’ This week we will consider a couple of major issues that we discover in this text about His ministry as the final High Priest.

First, we will look at why we need a better priest. And then, we will explore the things that make Jesus the greatest High Priest of all. Again, you will benefit from studying Hebrews 4:14-5:10 in preparation for Sunday’s message from God’s Word.

    A Note About Sunday School

We had a wonderful first day back last Lord’s Day in Sunday School! We are so very thankful for all of our teachers and leaders who have committed themselves to serving in our educational ministry. Praise the Lord for your “ labor of love” (1 Thessalonians 1:3)!

For those attending our High School through Adult Class on “Understanding the Times,” let me encourage you to be sure and download the outlines from the Church website for your use this Sunday in our class. You may find them below, or on the main page of the church website.

This week we will continue our discussion of Marxism, with a special focus upon Marxism as it appears today in our world (what’s known as ‘Cultural Marxism’). We will consider how it differs radically from the Christian worldview, and how we should respond to it from the Word of God.

May our Father bless you richly, and I love you with all my heart!

  • Monday Encouragement

The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent”-Exodus 14:14

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

One of the greatest of all Old Testament events is the exodus from Egypt. There is simply no way one could overstate its importance for the Bible’s story of redemption. This one historical event is used by both the Old and New Covenant Scriptures as a foreshadowing, or picture, of our salvation which has been once for all accomplished by our Lord Jesus Christ (for a NT reference see 1 Corinthians 10:2).

For example, you’ll notice as you read through the Psalms, that there are frequent references (both explicit and implied) to the liberation of the Israelites and the defeat of the Egyptians as the Lord’s greatest act of deliverance and power.

Perhaps none is more memorable than the words of Psalm 136: 1-16–

Give thanks to the Lord. . . .

to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, for his steadfast love endures forever; and brought Israel out from among them, for his steadfast love endures forever; with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who divided the Red Sea in two, for his steadfast love endures forever; and made Israel pass through the midst of it, for his steadfast love endures forever; but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who led his people through the wilderness, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

In Exodus 14, of course, we find the historical account of the day that the Israelites finally departed Egypt, and then were immediately pursued by Pharaoh and his vast infantry, including six hundred of his chariots and choicest officers. As the Covenant people fled, fiercely chased by the Egyptians, they finally came to a dead end, literally! The Red Sea.

At that instant, humanly speaking, they were indeed as good as dead. And every Israelite who could think and speak out loud knew it! Unimaginable fear gripped their hearts. In unison they cried out desperately to the Lord, knowing full well that they were ill-equipped to do battle with such a vast army of professional soldiers, or survive a swim in the sea ahead of them.

Then, fear turned into accusations and bitter ‘death-bed’ complaints, both against Moses and against the Lord Himself. And as the army of the enemy approached, the Israelites longed for Egypt again where, despite their horrible enslavement to the pagan king and his many gods, they were at least alive!

It is at that very instant that Moses, inspired and empowered by the Holy Spirit, uttered one of the most encouraging commands in the Word of God:

Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent” (vv.13-14).

You know the rest of the story. Let’s just say that things did not turn out so well for Pharaoh and his troops! It was, we might say, a ‘slam dunk,’ pun intended!!

    A Little Help for Today

On this new Monday, all of this gets me to wondering about the silence and stillness that the Lord commanded through Moses.

We can certainly assume that the Lord was not happy with their complaints, or the bitter charges and accusations that came flying out of the mouths of His people like a firehose gushing poison. But there is something else here too. The silence that the Lord ordered must be understood in the light of what comes before it–the initial command to “ stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord.”

In this context, the people’s silence will indicate several things:

First, they are powerless to prevent their own demise. Humanly speaking, they are doomed. The Lord has put them in a place from which there is no escape, and He has done so in order to glorify His own omnipotence and to tangibly display His steadfast love for those He has redeemed.

Secondly, their faith in the power and love of God will be displayed by remaining in place and doing nothing in terms of effecting their own escape. They must “ Stand by” (NASB), and relax even, while the Lord goes to work! Beyond this, there is nothing for them to ‘do.’

Third, the act of faithfully standing still in the place where the Lord has directed them will result in the ultimate conquest of their fears and anxieties. This is why Moses ordered them to “ Fear not” (v. 13). The longer they obey the Lord–standing still, resisting the urge to panic, and being silent–the more their fears will subside!

While this amazing episode is a picture of our salvation through Christ our Lord, there is also a great measure of encouragement to be found here regarding our every-day-lives as His disciples.

How often it is that we seem to find ourselves ‘between the devil and the deep blue sea’! My personal perception of things is that we are there now. Once again, as has been the case countless times in Church history, the Covenant people are surrounded, boxed in, and cornered. Perhaps you feel it too. Frankly, there are some moments in my days, and maybe yours as well, that might be accurately labeled as ‘panicky’ or ‘unnerving,’ and the temptation to long for the relative ease of my former enslavement in ‘Egypt’ is strong. After all, there are much easier ways to live than to live by faith in Christ! And with this temptation comes the tendency to allow my mouth to betray my heart’s disappointment with the Lord and His plan.

But here we are . . . again! And we are here . . . together!

Behind us, nipping at our heels, is the enemy of our Lord and the host of agents that the devil employs. In front of us is a future that hauntingly looms over us like towering waves that will surely crush us to smithereens.

    So what now?

Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today”!

We might say that today, like our Israelite forefathers at the Red Sea so long ago, we should just relax, trust our Father, and rejoice in His goodness, power, and love because He has us right where He wants us! For His glory!

He has deliberately led us to a place where we can do nothing but “ stand firm” and watch His salvation as it unfolds before our awestruck eyes! When He delivers us, and save us He will, He alone will be glorified for all the world the see. For then, “ the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD” (v. 18).

So, let us be still, let us hold our tongues, releasing them only in praise of our Father for His mercy and our freedom, and let us watch for our Lord’s deliverance!

Stand by,” for there is much, much more to come!!

    I love you all,

    Mike

Call to Worship: From Psalm 103

Pastor: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
People: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
Pastor: who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
People: who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Pastor: The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.
People: Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!

    Prayer of Adoration:

    Song:  By Thy Mercy

Jesus, Lord of life and glory, bend from Heav’n Thy gracious ear
While our waiting souls adore thee, friend of helpless sinners, hear
From the depth of nature’s blindness, from the hardening power of sin
From all malice and unkindness, from the pride that lurks within

Chorus: By Thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord
By Thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord, good Lord

When temptation sorely presses, in the day of Satan’s power
In our times of deep distresses, in each dark and trying hour
When the world around is smiling, in the time of wealth and ease
Earthly joys our hearts beguiling, in the day of health and peace

In the weary hours of sickness, in the times of grief and pain
When we feel our mortal weakness, when all human help is vain
In the solemn hour of dying, in the awful judgment day,
May our souls, on Thee relying, find thee still our rock and stay.

The Old Testament Lesson: Genesis 50:15-21

    Prayer of Confession:

    Assurance of Pardon:  Psalm 103:11-12

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

The New Testament Lesson: Romans 14:1-8

Prayer for the Church:  Dr. Bud Lancaster, Ruling Elder.

The Sermon: “Our Great High Priest: Part One.”  Hebrews 4:14-16. Dr. Michael Calvert, Teaching Elder.

    Sermon Preview:

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

Before I introduce you to our message for this coming Lord’s Day, let me take a moment to remind you that our Fall Sunday School Ministry begins this week!

As always, there will be classes for all ages, and we will meet each week at our new time of 9:30 AM. I hope you will not only join us as we study and fellowship together, but that you will fervently pray for all those who teach and lead us as we probe the riches of God’s Word together, educating ourselves for the purpose of serving Him more fully.

Let me also remind you that there will be a very special class offered for High School students through Adults. I will be teaching on the subject of ‘Understanding the Times.’ The class will meet in our Worship Center.

Over the next eleven weeks, we will examine those forces and movements that are shaping our nation and our world today, and presenting many challenges to our worship and witness as Christians. Together, we will learn how to think about and evaluate these movements in view of God’s Word, and how to respond with a Christian answer.

You can find our class outlines and resource list on our Church website, which may be downloaded and printed for your use.

I look forward to seeing you at 9:30 AM on Sunday!

Then, this Lord’s Day we will return to our series of sermons from the Epistle to the Hebrews. Our text for this week, and for a couple of weeks afterwards, is Hebrews 4:14-16.

In this magnificent passage we find the inspired author’s exaltation of our “ great high priest,” our Lord Jesus, who is superior to the Old Testament priesthood, including even the high priest!

As you prepare for this message, you will benefit from reading Hebrews 4:14 through 5:10, and then chapters 7 and 8.

I love you all so very much!

    Mike

  • Monday Encouragement

My beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

How often have you reflected upon the laughter of God?

If you haven’t done this often, it’s very understandable. We don’t find many references to the Lord’s laughter in Scripture, and it is mentioned just three times in the Psalms.  If we were to make a list of the divine attributes, we might well leave off the attribute of a ‘sense of humor’!  But, nevertheless, we have it here in the inspired Word of God that laughing is something that God does (see also Psalm 37:13 and 59:8).

Here in Psalm 2, and in the other references, the Lord is said to be laughing at those enemies of His (and those of His people) who strut their stuff, so to speak, in defiance of His reign. In 2:1, it is the nations of the world that are in a fit, devising plans against the Sovereign Lord, believing all the while that they can thwart His will, successfully strategize against Him, and bring His Kingdom and His people to ruin.

In 37:12, these same malevolent forces are those that plot against the Covenant people, seething with anger and unbridled hatred against them, even unleashing deadly weapons upon them (v. 14). In 59:7, these wicked nations and powers constantly vomit their poisonous lies and empty accusations against the Lord and those who are His.

Most unexpectedly, however, there is laughter from heaven in response!

Certainly, the Lord is angry with such people, nations, and forces that are always opposing His will and His rule, all the while delivering their merciless blows upon those He loves.  And, indeed, as each of these chapters from the Psalter make abundantly clear, they will get what’s coming to them, and to a degree that, when the Lord is finished with them, no one will remember that they even existed!

But what’s meant by the sound of this divine laughter that echoes throughout the universe even now?

Well, let me simply suggest a few things that you might contemplate on this new Monday.

Our Lord laughs because He is in control of all things.

Despite the boisterous boasts of the hostile powers, and their relentless opposition to Him, there is not even the slightest alarm in the heavenly sanctuary! The Commander and King reigns supreme! What His enemies don’t know and would never admit, is that their very existence, their every breath, their every thought, their every move, is under Divine control. They are on borrowed time! At any moment, the Lord our God can flick them away with the tip of His finger as one would rid themselves of a bothersome little gnat!

Our Lord laughs because He is infinitely wiser than those who are opposed to Him.

His enemies, and ours, are always strategizing, studying, scheming, and plotting. Yet, in comparison to the wisdom of God, their wisest advisors and most experienced strategists are simply stupid fools! Every move planned in their wicked counsels, and then executed on the stage of human history, will lead them deeper into the trap that has been set for them. There is no victory coming for the enemies of our Redeemer. Their plans are reduced to sheer folly in view of the mighty wisdom of God!

Our Lord laughs because His plan to exalt His Son is unfolding with perfection, even as His enemies war against Him.

The more opposition that arises against Him, the more perfectly His eternal plan for the ages unfolds in time.  And that great plan is that His Son might be exalted and glorified before all as Lord!  The final triumph of the Son will be revealed in the face of the powers of hell that are waging war against Him, unleashing their maximum fire-power upon God’s Anointed One, but only to their open shame and utter defeat!  Every flaming missile launched from enemy territory leads to the victory and magnification of the Son! Hallelujah!

But then, our Lord also laughs because it is through suffering, persecution, adversity, and spiritual war that He is glorifying Himself through us, and making our lives as beautiful as His Son’s.

On the field of battle, and within the crucible of pain, His Spirit is transforming us into a holy people and a beautiful Bride!  And as empowered by His grace, we will exalt and proclaim the Name that is above all names, even in our sufferings! The greater the opposition, or the steeper the climb, or the more it hurts, the more His power and unfailing sufficiency are revealed in us and to us.

And our enemies can only gaze upon us with incredulity and utter astonishment! Those who belong to this King cannot be crushed, forsaken, or destroyed! The more intense the battle, the stronger we become, for in our weakness His omnipotence is being revealed! And in the end, we shall stand with our Lord in victory, and shall rejoice in the total eradication of all evil and everything that is or ever has been opposed to His reign!

Let’s laugh along with our King!

My encouragement on this Monday is this: why not do a little laughing of your own? Why not join with Christ our Lord in laughing at all His enemies that are now at work in our world? Why not laugh in your pains and tribulations? This is totally appropriate because you already know the glorious outcome of your struggles!  You have every right to burst out laughing because of the sheer insanity of those forces that vainly stand against the Bride of Jesus! What a joke they are! What hilarious madness it is to oppose our King and those His blood has cleansed!

Six days from now we will gather again before our Lord in worship. Until then, rather than giving in to despair, worry, and anxiety, let us laugh with a most holy hilarity! And then we shall come before Him, the One who reigns over all, with singing and thankfulness in our hearts!

“ But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you”–Psalm 5:11.

I love you, each and every one, with all of my heart!

Thank you for remaining faithful to Christ and His Church!

    Mike
